I can move away too, but I choose to stay while my kids play in dirt that may be contaminated with lead they sampled some dirt around my house and they had said it was 600 ppm but we live outside of the 1.7 mile radius of the Clean Up zone here from the Excide contamination I just want to say thank you Corrie for being a good author a good writer taking the time to document these things and giving Miss Lappin her grace, attention, and humanity, and a deserved place in historical record.
Veta, I am going to do an article on Exide in the future. I used to sample the “dog houses,” (I think that’s what we called it), which was the lead fenceline monitoring. I am really sad for the entire community. I also don’t think you’ll ever had your reckoning with Exide after all these years.
@Cathy, your friend Nancy may have grown-up with her or known her. She was on the same street as Nancy (and me!). She was on the 200 block, we were the 300, and I think Nancy is the 600 or 800 block. This was a really hard blog to write, and she tried so hard to push me to do all the things she once did, but it is just too much work with a young family and career. It also took a large mental toll on me seeing the kids in town with cancer.
